Berenstain or Berenstein? Check the book, then the memory.
One letter can feel surprisingly important when a name belongs to your childhood.

Berenstain Bears
What the record establishes
The series’ official website uses The Berenstain Bears. For a direct check, look at the title and author credit on a published book rather than a recreated cover in an online comparison. The official spelling is the starting point for this case; an image labeled “what you remember” is not a historical edition.
A useful way to investigate the spelling
Before searching, write the name from memory. Then inspect a book’s cover and title page, recording the publisher and publication year. If you find a different spelling, photograph the entire object, not only the disputed word. A printer’s error, shop listing, unofficial item, or fan image would be a different kind of evidence from an authorized series title.
Why the alternative can feel familiar
Our interpretation is that a familiar name pattern can supply an ending when the exact letters were never carefully learned. That is a possible explanation, not proof of what happened to you. Reading a book many times can build strong familiarity with its characters while leaving the spelling of its creators’ surname less precise.
Separate three questions: What spelling exists on this object? Is the object an authorized publication? Why do I remember another spelling? The first two can often be investigated with physical evidence. The last requires more caution.
What would change this case?
A dated, verifiable authorized edition with a different title would deserve examination and an edition-specific explanation. A search suggestion or a modern typo would establish that the alternative is used somewhere, but would not establish a change to the original series.
